Abstract
Obesity has been acknowledged as a physical disease with psychological problems. However, recently obesity was considered a multi-factorial disease which is resulted by the combinations of genetic, biological, cultural, social, and behavioral factor.
The realization that obesity is a physical illness demands that medical evaluation be carried out to identify the biochemical alterations in obese patients. This medical evaluation should be complemented by a behavioral assessment. Such an assessment
for the obese patient should be consisted of following 4 area assessment process ; 1) assessment for the specific areas which are directly related to weight ; 2) assessment for the general areas which are indirectly related to weight ; 3) assessment for
the treatment ; 4) assessment for the evaluation of treatment process and effect. The authors will introduce the assessment processes which are actually applied in the clinical practice of the Nanum Obesity and Eating Disorders Clinic.
